Lily: What exactly did Damian say to you?
Luke: He said that if you love somebody, the ends justify the means. Mom, what are you thinking?
Lily: I’m thinking I need to speak to your father.

Van Hansis lands guest spot on USA Network’s PSYCH

Okay, I seem to be the last one to the party on this one, too. That’s what happens when you go 24 hours without checking in with the greater fandom. 🙂

At any rate, earlier this evening (which I think would be lunchtime LA time),Van confirmed on his Facebook that he’s booked a guest spot on the USA Network show, PSYCH. Judging by the fact that he calls it “pretty awesome,” I’m hoping this means we get more than a wave and a smile.

Facebook, and Twitter

Though Van’s episode air date is yet to be confirmed, here is a tip posted on the Van Hansis Mutual Admiration Society Facebook,

If you go to your profile and add PSYCH to your favorite tv shows, you will get notified from them when they announce Van on the show. I just got one today for a different guest star like 5 minutes before Van posted.

I think it also works if you just go to the PSYCH Facebook page and Like it.

It also looks like they may promote guest stars on their Twitter account. They finished fifth in Shortys balloting in the television category, just ahead of Sesame Street, with a second entry placing 10th for the Psych Writer’s Room Twitter feed.

Who knew Sesame Street had a Twitter account? Who subscribes to their tweets? Just took a look and the tweets are all “character-driven.” A sampling:

Bert: My pigeon Bernice loves when I read her nursery rhymes by Mother Goose. So does Ernie’s rubber duckie. Must be a bird thing.

Cookie Monster: Gingerbread cookie is center of great debate. Is it cookie, or is it cake? Oh, who cares – it delicious either way!!!

Big Bird: My favorite color is yellow (naturally!). What’s yours?

Cookie Monster: Oh, boy, oh, boy, oh, boy! Me cannot wait to find new cookie recipe online! (Waiting not exactly me area of expertise!)

This is like G-rated crack! And, BTW, Cookie, it’s definitely a cookie. Gingerbread might be a cake, but a gingerbread cookie is definitely a cookie! At least in my opinion FWIW. YMMV.

More on what is PSYCH and when it airs after the jump….

What is PSYCH and when will it be on?

According to the show’s website:

PSYCH is a quick-witted comedy/drama starring James Roday as young police consultant Shawn Spencer who solves crimes with powers of observation so acute that Santa Barbara PD detectives think he’s psychic.

Psych also stars Dulé Hill as Shawn’s best friend and reluctant sidekick, Gus, and Corbin Bernsen as his disapproving father, Henry, who ironically was the one who honed his son’s "observation" skills as a child.

Season 4 is already out on DVD (who knew?) and there is a Season Finale post on the show’s home page (suggesting Season 5 is over already). I was going to be bummed but then I saw that there are several mentions on the show’s home page saying “Psych returns this summer” and there’s a preview clip that makes absolutely no sense to me knowing nothing about the show! specifies “July 2010” though, and FutonCritic says “July likely,” though I can’t tell if that’s speculation or based on insider information.

According to the show’s Wikipedia entry,

Psych debuted on Friday, July 7, 2006, immediately following the fifth season premiere of Monk, and continued to be paired with the series until Monk’s conclusion on December 4, 2009. It was the highest-rated US basic cable television premiere of 2006. Psych ended its fourth season on March 10, 2010. The first half of season 5, consisting of nine episodes, premiered on July 14, 2010 and ended on September 8, 2010 with a "mid-season" or "summer finale". The second half of season 5 began on November 10, 2010. The series has also been picked up for a sixth season.

Let’s hope that Van’s episode is in the first half of the season! No news yet on which episode he’ll be in, but I’ll let you know as soon as I know. New episodes should air on Wednesdays, 10pm/9pm Central.

I’ll definitely do a post like I have for the Big C, Body of Proof, and I Hate My Teenager Daughter, but not this week (too much RL). Clearly pineapples are an in-joke, but I’m not that “in” yet.

Viewing online

In the meantime, residents of the US can watch full episodes on the show’s site. The rest of us will have to look elsewhere (I’ll include a link once I find one for overseas viewers). I saw that someone posted the following link on Van’s site: I wouldn’t recommend it. When I went to watch or download, it prompts you to download the xVid drivers, which is not out of the ordinary. But when I tried to do so, my Norton came up with an “Attack” warning for an “Adware Installer.”

The site that had Eric’s episode of The Big C available, CastTV has links to all the episodes as well, but the official show page only lists the Amazon (paid) episodes. Plus, I’m 99% positive those are also not available outside the US. CastTV lists other sites offering episodes, including WiseVid. I haven’t had a chance to chase down a working site, but I will before the episode airs.
