Reid: I have rounds to make.
Luke: Yeah, yeah. I heard that that guy in the next room has this wicked case of athlete’s foot. I’m sure he’d be thrilled to have a world-class neurosurgeon come in and help take that burning itch away.

Daytime Emmy Nominations are out! Slim pickin’s for ATWT :(

Okay, I guess a pilot pick-up AND an Emmy nomination in 24 hours would have been just too good to be true. 🙁

Contrary to pre-announcement buzz, Eric Sheffer Stevens did not end up picking up a nomination for Best Supporting Actor. Nor did ATWT get a nod for best drama. In fact, ATWT only picked up four nominations overall (compared to 14 for B&B!). So, the highlights:

  • ATWT replacement, The Talk receives one nomination (for Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling)
  • Martha Byrne’s Gotham the Series gets a nomination for best short-form (web series)
  • Colleen Zenk gets a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress (yay, Babs!)
  • Michael Park gets a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor (woo hoo, Michael!)
  • And….Julie Pinson gets the third acting nom for Outstanding Supporting Actress (no comment)
  • ATWT’s fourth and final nomination is for (drum roll, please)….Best Writing – for the Our Town finale episode
  • No surprise – the budget-poor ATWT is shut out of all non-acting categories like set design and hair and makeup (which, now that I’ve seen how gorgeous Marnie Schulenberg is in person, I completely believe they should be!)
  • And, though this has nothing to do with Luke or Reid, I love the fact that all four nominees for Outstanding Performer In A Children’s Series are Sesame Street muppeteers!
  • Also, Disney Channel’s animated Tasty Time with Zefronk gets a nomination for best Short-Format, even though Michael O’Leary was told that Steamboat the Series didn’t qualify because it was a “comedy” not a “soap” (see @SteamboatSeries on Twitter, scroll to March 14th. Maybe I have my categories mixed up (but it’s the only mention of Gotham and Venice the Series), but if not, WTF?

The Best Supporting Actor nominees are:

  • Jonathan Jackson, as Lucky Spencer, General Hospital ABC
  • Jason Thompson, as Patrick Drake, General Hospital ABC
  • Brian Kerwin, as Charlie Banks, One Life To Live ABC
  • Doug Davidson, as Paul Williams, The Young and the Restless CBS
  • Billy Miller, as Billy Abbott, The Young and the Restless CBS

Last, Michele Vice-Maslin, who co-wrote “What If I’m Wrong,” with performer Ehren Ebbage received a nomination (along with collaborators Chuck Wild and Dorian Cheah) for best original song (Starr X’d Lovers on OLTL), a song I used in an early LuRe music vid.

Definitely some choices that make you go “hmmmm….” in the bunch (mostly from great actors who didn’t have a lot of screentime this year – though again, given the way the process is set up, all they need is ONE good episode). The full drama listings after the jump….

This is slightly off the subject but LL would you know about any fan events with Eric and Van in the near future.Van hasn’t mentioned anything and i guess Eric will be busy with his TV show but I would really love to meet them one day.I heard about a LuRe event at the end of June but I don’t know much about it and i guess it’s a fan thing without Van and Eric.Do you have any info.?I’d appreciate it!

I don’t personally know of any fan events with Eric or Van. Van was really quiet until his PSYCH gig came up, and he’s been relatively quiet since (he’s posted a few recommendations and Friended a bunch of people on Facebook), but that’s all I’m aware of. The Trip of Epicness (TOE) is scheduled for late June in NYC, but I believe it’s just for LuRe fans – as far as I know neither Eric nor Van are expected in person.

I would guess your best bet to see Eric would be to attend a taping of I Hate My Teenage Daughter. As it’s a multi-camera sitcom filmed before a live audience, that should mean that people will have 13 chances (!) this summer to see him live, in studio! I’ll try to keep an eye out for details, but I wouldn’t be surprised if their tickets are handled by audiencesunlimited.com (who did the pilot tickets). These should be free tickets, in Los Angeles. (Incidentally, Audiences Unlimited is also handling the tickets for the Daytime Emmys in Las Vegas – they run at $500-600 each! Luckily we have one fewer excuse to tempt us into buying a ticket to see Eric there! :/

      Good luck!

Eric was totally robbed. I can´t believe it. At lest he won TV Guide Canada Soap Opera Spirit Awards for his role Reid Oliver

No other soap brought tears to my eyes or made me feel emotions like As The World Turns did. So in my book BEST DAYTIME DRAMA: AS THE WORLD TURNS….screw the others.

  4. Karen says:

I am very upset and disappointed.
Poor Eric – maybe Van had the right idea by not submitting but I guess we all would have been upset if Eric didn’t.
Oh well – it was a wild ride while it lasted.
Too bad the journey was cut short.

As wonderful as his character was and his acting was so great, I was worried that he would not have a reel by itself to win the nomination. But don’t be sad, i heard that his pilot is picked up for 13 weeks!that’s so much better than an Emmy. Now let’s cross our fingers for Van.he has Psych coming out but not until October. These guys are too good to not have great careers.

WISHING YOUNG AND RESTLESS GOOD LUCK ON THE DAYTIME EMMYS, HOWEVER: VICTORIA ABBOT’S HAIR HAS NOT SEEN A BRUSH IN SEVERAL MONTHS. MIGHT NOT GET THAT ONE, WHAT IS UP WITH HER RATTY HAIR.
