How nice to be able to report some news on Van!

Over on LiveJournal, several members of the LuRe/Nuke fandom have been involved in an effort to raise money for charities aiding Japan. Known as “japan_calls,” organizers wrote:

The idea of this community is to give inspiration to others to give to a country in great need through the voice of entertainers that we admire. Provided that they are willing, we will host auctions where members (or non-members, this will be open to anyone willing to give) will bid on receiving either a

A) 15 second PERSONALIZED voice recording. (example provided at bottom)

B) Provided they are willing, a personalized YouTube video of their desired length.

However. I do not want people scamming others out of a cause of great importance. If you are a bidder who has won, I ask that you provide PROOF of your bid to a charity connected to Japan of your choice. (We will provide a list of options in a future post.) If you cannot provide such, we will have to go to the second highest bidder. Only myself, (or other mod depending on the success rate of this community) will see it.

So please, join and promote! If you have a way to reach a celebrity that you would like to see involved in this, please please please let me know!

Over 20 charities are listed as potential beneficiaries, including the American Red Cross and Sheltbox. The list of celebrities includes:

• Sasha Cohen (Olympic silver medallist figure skater)
• Jennifer Finnigan (B&B)
• Rick Fox (Boston Celtics basketball player)

• Great news! Van Hansis has joined japan_calls. So be sure to check out japan_calls regularly to see when you will be able to bid on a personlized voice message from Van, Jake and the other incredible people who have joined the project!

Sorry for the late pimping (RL has been crazy), but I hope better late than never!

The winners for the 8th Annual Goldie Awards were announced this week and Eric Sheffer Stevens wins another award! Although a surprise to most, there hasn’t been any grumbling about it being undeserved, which is always a good sign (Trent Dawson was also nominated).

Overall, ATWT won in every category in which it was nominated (and had dual nominations in several categories) for a total of five acting awards, plus one special award.

ETA, 21 Mar 2011, 9.39pm GMT: FYI – an update was added to the winners thread confirming a couple of things. First, that the decision to close off voting to pre-registered members was due to ATWT ballot-box stuffing. Second, that it WASN’T due to this site (whew!). And third, that results were not impacted by the interlopers. That is – that the winners do indeed reflect the will of the relatively objective, long-time Gold Derby members, not just us johnny (and jenny)-come-latelys. In the meantime, SoapCentral.com’s Dankies voting continues this week through midnight (Eastern Time, I think), Sunday, 27th March 2011.

Updated: 20 Mar 2011, 4.09am GMT: Jack Gutierrez has been cast and is confirmed as Matt’s (Eric’s character’s) brother, AND his ex-wife’s (Annie’s) love interest. Ewww….sounds like the plot of a bad soap opera….

I started to reply to a PM I received and a similar post on this subject on LRO, but by the time I got going, I had written nearly 4000 words, so I moved it to here where it ended up closer to 7000 words after edits! (yeesh.)

The core of the question was: what would it take to create a one-shot Luke and Reid epilogue?

Specifically, a fan-based campaign dubbed “Help Nathan buy Firefly,” which has been gaining a lot of viral traction and was even featured on CNN, was cited as a promising model (it actually isn’t).

This question has been asked countless times, and I have had these ideas bouncing in my head for months, so I thought I’d finally get them down on e-paper. My bottom line: I don’t think it will happen.

Tickets are available for the filming of the pilot of I Hate My Teenage Daughter. This is scheduled for Thursday, March 31st at 6:00 pm at the Warner Brothers Studio in Burbank California from Audiences Unlimited.

Tickets are FREE.

Audiences Unlimited says:

“Pilots" are the first episodes of new shows that are being proposed for the new Fall TV season or as mid-season replacements. We have offered tickets for many pilots – new and unknown shows – that evolved into huge network comedy hits. Attend the filming of a pilot and you may be among the first to see one of TV’s hottest new shows. At various times during the year we may also offer complimentary tickets for award shows, celebrity red carpet events and music, comedy, sports or variety specials….

Free tickets will be offered starting 30 days prior to show date or when details (date, showtime, etc.) are confirmed. Look for the "TICKETS" link under the studio location. Unlike many of the other pilots currently listed on their site, only ONE date is listed between now and may for Daughter, so I would guess they will not make more until the suits decide if they’re going to pick it up or not.

So I finally got around to looking up how to attend a taping, which I must admit took about 5 minutes of googling. Many peeps have told me recently that they show what the cameras are seeing on screens above the audience, so that’s quite useful, educational opportunity-wise.

Fox’s new half-hour,  multi-camera sitcom pilot, I Hate My Teenage Daughter, will produced and written by The New Adventures of Old Christine executives Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer and directed by veteran sitcom director Andy Ackerman. The show stars Katie Fineran (The Inside and Wonderfalls) and Jaime Pressly (My Name is Earl) as two lifelong friends, Nikki and Annie, who discover that their teenaged daughters Sophie and Mackenzie who are nasty queen bee types. Eric Sheffer Stevens will play the part of Matt Gutierrez, Annie’s ex-husband.
