Bob: I — I think that’s a good idea. I’m glad you came.
Reid: Well, congratulations again.
Katie: See you.
Bob: It’s amazing what a suppurating cyst can do.
Reid: I think he bought that. Don’t you?

FanFic | Caught in the Cross-Fire

Caught in the Cross-Fire on FanFiction.net

ETA 21 Jan 2011: I’m not sure why I didn’t think of this before, but for whatever reason, my two fluffy, lightweight fanfics (Cross-Fire and Ode) both do really well on search engines, and the AU one that I’m actually pouring my heart and soul into, that I hope everyone who loves Luke and Reid will read (Simple Gifts) doesn’t. So I’m cross-posting the link to Simple Gifts here.

This is the brief summary: Train? What train? Following their first Christmas together, Luke and Reid embark on journeys of self-discovery. Can two simple gifts lead to a happily ever after? Shamelessly romantic, with a sense of humor. Rated T for strong language & fluffy innuendo.

If you’re looking for Luke and Reid fanfic, and are willing to read ongoing , multi-chapter serials, I hope that you’ll give it a try.

Thanks -LL

Simple Gifts, A Luke and Reid Love Story: Chapter 1

Simple Gifts | Chapter 1-6 Author’s Notes

Now back to Caught in the Cross-Fire….

Rating: T (language and innuendo)

Genre: Humor/Romance

Word Count: 21,000+

Disclaimer: Telenext, P&G, blah blah blah. I’m just reveling in the opportunity to live in Luke and Reid’s universe.

Warnings: None really needed- (unless hetero drooling isn’t your cup of tea) ;)

Summary: A Luke and Reid fanfic – from Mona Cross’s POV. Mona has a soft spot for Reid, and Bob notices. Hilarity (I hope) ensues. Thanks to Randy and BlueMirror133 for the inspiration and a shout-out to snicks (who else?) who gets credit for the title! Fluffy and campy, but also a little deeper. A cross between canon/AU/missing scene fanfic. A short (for me) multi-chapter adventure that fills in the blanks between episodes and tries to explain some of the inconsistencies. Written and published during/immediately after the Mona Cross arc in June/early July. Another case of an idea dying to get out jumping to the front of the creative queue. Then I promise I’ll get back to Simple Gifts!
In the meantime, a few thoughts on this story. As I mentioned, this all started with an aside on one of the spoiler threads. A picture of Mona fawning over Reid (and in particular, the footsie scene) popped into my head and begged to be told. The way it played out in my head, it was just too funny to pass up (though it was much funnier in my head than I could manage without going completely OOC/AU).

But once I started writing, I realized that the scene that were so vivid in my head really had to be pretty brief – there is no way Reid Oliver would put up with many of Mona’s come-ons, even if he had made a commitment to Bob not to blow the deal. So I started looking at the transcripts and once I got started, it became a good foundation for the rest of the story.

By the time I got most of the way through chapter three (I hadn’t posted anything yet), I thought: “There’s no way anyone’s actually gonna read this: it’s all from Mona’s POV and there are no PDAs! I must be nuts writing this one and keeping Luke and Reid in different states for another.”  Just shows that we fanfic writers owe a lot to TPTB for the complete lack of airtime and the desperate LuRe fans that have resulted.

The Invicta plotline was always obvious – even from the spoilers, it was pretty clear Bob was eventually going to tell Mona to take a hike, though it wasn’t clear at first that Luke and Reid would both retain their positions. But despite the obvious ending, this fanfic evolved wildly unpredictably. I had absolutely no idea that the story would end up where it did. Mona started off as a funny, throwaway character in my mind. So her evolution is to a large extent as much a surprise to me as anyone else.

Thank you again for everyone who has left feedback here and on FF.net. It is very much appreciated and definitely informs my LuRe thinking and writing – both in this fic and elsewhere. And thanks to limeybird and respiratoryatgirl at LRO for the “Dr McSexy” reminder

Enjoy!
Mona Cross was in a good mood. During the three-hour drive from Chicago to Oakdale, with Destiny Child’s Independent Women blaring on the Bose speakers in her new BMW, the sunroof wide open, singing at the top of her ten years of toiling behind the scenes at Invicta, only to see her less-deserving male colleagues get all the credit for her ideas, she was finally going to get her chance.

She had scoured the country for independent hospitals, ripe for the picking. Much to her surprise, the best candidate was practically right in her own backyard in nearby Oakdale. Oakdale Memorial had been run for decades by local physicians. Memorial had been run for the last umpteen years by one Robert William Hughes – or Bob, as he was more commonly known. Bob appeared to be a competent manager, but an uncreative one – things at Memorial did not appear to have changed for decades – until 2010.

Mona had asked her assistant – not only a hottie, but a technowhiz in his spare time – to put together a search bot to flag news about major developments in the hospital industry…and Memorial’s new Snyder Pavilion project had been caught in the snare. Somehow Bob Hughes – dull as dishwater Bob Hughes – had managed not only to raise the funding to build a state-of-the-art surgical facility, but he had somehow convinced prominent neurosurgeon Reid Oliver to leave University Hospital in Dallas to run the new wing….

LoveLure’s Media: Luke and Reid Endgame Campaign Postcards

I’m back – well, I’m back on the ground, at any rate.  Twelve LONG hours later, I’m in the USA and someplace with steady broadband internet access again. So I’ll be posting more material over the next few days. For starters, I thought I’d make available the postcard designs I did for the LuRe Endgame campaign, as there is still the possibility that TPTB filmed multiple endings and are still undecided about the potential end for the show.

In case you’re not familiar with the Endgame campaign, while ATWT was still filming, many enthusiastic LuRe fans expended a lot of passion and effort trying to convince TPTB that Reid is a much better match for Luke than Noah, and that the show should end its run on September 17th, 2010 with Luke and Reid living happily ever after.

Although filming is now completed, I thought I’d upload some of the designs I put together in case anyone wants to have a look. I haven’t yet found a WordPress gallery that looks nice and offers high-res download capability, so for now, this is for online viewing only. But as soon as I find one, I’ll post in case you’re interested in printing and sending one along to the management at CBS/ATWT to let them know how you feel about the storyline. When I get high-res DVDs, I’ll may try to convert some to wallpapers as well.

Enjoy!

In Transit

Hi, Everyone,

Thanks to the shoutout from snicks over at AfterElton.com, things have been busy here at LukeAndReid.com.  So, thanks to everyone who followed that link or any other to stop by for a visit – thank you and welcome!

In case you haven’t checked out the “About This Site” info, I wanted to pass along a few thoughts about the gaps in the site.  Yes, I know there are gaps, and if it were in my power to have filled it in before inviting y’all to come visit, I would have. Unfortunately, Luke and Reid have so little time left (possibly as little as 60-90 minutes or so of actual airtime, if we assume 9 weeks remaining, one episode a week x 6-10 minutes) that I thought it was more important to get this up while people are still watching first-run ATWT and desperately hoping for a glimpse of the boys, than to get it perfect and launch in…say, mid-September.

However, the timing couldn’t be more personally inconvenient as I’m leaving tomorrow morning (Friday) for a month in the US. So in the meantime, I’m scrambling like a maniac to get my packing, work, and other RL in order before I leave.  So, just wanted to let everyone know that I’ll have limited blog access most of Friday, but that there should be many more updates (including the rest of the transcripts and the YouTube annotations) coming soon thereafter.  Let me know if you have any requests!

In the meantime, if you want to get a sense of how insanely intense this effort has been, I’ll leave you with this thought. I registered the domain last Wednesday, 7th July, and spent a day or two finding the screen caps for the home page gallery, and tweaking the theme to include things like the random quote generator which for me was a MUST have for this site.  All else has been done in the ensuing 6-7 days (see Site Updates), so I’m one tired puppy.  But I hope that will give you hope that there is more to come and an incentive to come back for another visit.

Thanks for dropping in,

-LL

Site Updates

Thursday 15 July 2010

I started this list this morning (which itself is a work in progress) so that it’ll be easier for people to find changes as this blog grows. I haven’t gone through the trouble of backfilling the last week because there’ have been just too many changes to keep track of.  Just to give you some perspective, this blog started pretty much FROM SCRATCH on July 7th – eight days ago.  I transferred four pages from a prior test site, but all other content has been created or re-purposed from forum posts since then.

So, in case you’re wondering why there are huge gaps in the content and typos, this is why (well, that and the fact that last week was the last week of school for us; I have a job and two young kids; and I’m currently packing for a month at home with my family in the US – leaving tomorrow; oh yeah, and my British tax files are due to the accountant – yuck).

 • Added several entries to the glossary (including Sparkly Luke and Cell-Block)
 • Created this Site Updates page

Sunday 11 July to Wednesday 14 July 2010

 • Lots of pages and posts including the LiveBlog for 14th July episode, and the Countdown Clock
 • Started populating the random quote generator with real quotes as transcripts have been developed

Sunday 11 July 2010

 • Public announcement of LukeAndReid.com on the LRO and ESS fan forums
 • Created preliminary episode guide samples
 • Uploaded links to LoveLure’s media
 • Created the home page photo gallery (though still need to figure out how to activate the slide show mode)
 • Created the home page random quote generator and populated it with a few favorite quotes off the top of my head

Wednesday 7 July 2010

 • Registered LukeAndReid.com, set up domain and installed WordPress, selected Theme
 • Behind the scenes work including customizing theme and organized the site (main menus, sidebar), picking widgets and plugins, etc

Wednesday 30 June 2010

 • Launched test site at WordPress.com to share ESS 38th Birthday Tribute Songs and Recipes book and CD covers
 • Also trialed a few test posts: June 30th episode review, YouTube link to the I’m On Fire fanvid, Mirror Images list, and About this Site

Wednesday 16 June 2010

The idea for this site has been percolating in my head for a couple of months now. I had experimented with the WordPress engine for a few clients a couple of years ago, but they ended up going with custom sites instead. I’ve always thought WordPress has tremendous potential – both because of the available themes and plugins, and also because of its customizability. So far, I think I was right!

When Paris11 and I finished the ESS 38th Birthday Tribute in mid-June, we needed a place to post the files so contributors could access them. Rather than just a private post in the members-only fan forums/LiveJournal, I thought it was a good excuse to finally get going on this blog. So for a couple of weeks, while I recovered from the birthday project, I started reintroducing myself to WordPress, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Episode LiveBlog | July 14, 2010

18.14 GMT/13.14 EDT.  Okay, I’ll give this a shot – I’m home, (god willing) the live-stream is working well, DH is at work and the kids are fed (it’s almost 7pm here in England).  I tend to submit these really long observations on the mibbit and live threads, so I thought I might as well capture them for posterity for anyone who stops by to see what’s happening.

Don’t forget if you are able, and would rather watch it live, check out:

Happy LuresDay, everyone! Continue reading →
